The Importance of Cat & Dog Wellness Exam

Pet Wellness exams are key to helping your cat or dog maintain their long-term physical health.

When combined with regular vaccinations, parasite prevention and proper nutrition, these routine cat and dog checkups with our vets give your pet the best chance at excellent lifelong health.

When you bring your pet in for their regular vet checkup, we can prevent health issues from developing in your pet, or catch them early, when they are most treatable.

What to Expect During Your Pet's Wellness Exam

Our vets will provide your pet with a thorough physical checkup to get a picture of their overall health. A routine exam generally includes the following elements:

General Condition

Your pet's behavior, demeanor and physical condition can all give us a sense of their general health. How they walk and stand, their weight for their size and their alertness are all important indicators.

Coat & Skin

We will check your pet's skin and coat for signs of problems, including excessive oiliness or dryness, lumps, bumps, dandruff or abnormal hair loss or shedding.

Face & Head

Your pet's nose, ears and eyes will all be examined for abnormalities like discharge. We will also check out their mouth for signs of oral health issues like gum disease or tooth decay.

Internal Health

Heart rate and rhythm, pulse and blood pressure are vitally important to your pet's heart health. We'll test these to ensure they're normal. The lungs will then be examined for evidence of abnormal breathing.

Lymph nodes will be checked for pain or swelling, and we will also examine the abdomen to ensure the intestines, kidneys, bladder, spleen, liver and stomach all feel normal, and that your pet is not exhibiting any signs of discomfort.

Puppies & Kittens

Puppies and kittens require dedicated medical attention throughout their first weeks of life in order to start on the right foot.

We will provide them with a full physical examination, deworming medication and vaccinations. We will also test them for any internal parasites. You'll be provided with a puppy or kitten kit filled with educational material and samples to help you care for the newest member of your family.

Don't hesitate to contact our expert veterinary team with any questions or concerns you might have about caring for your new pet, either at your checkups, or after your visit.

Once your pet's initial appointment is complete, you'll return periodically for his or her required booster shots

Seniors

Recent advances in veterinary medicine and medical knowledge, alongside new therapies and nutrition for our pets means that they are living longer now than they even have before.

As your pet ages, regular checkups for your dog or cat become even more important to ensuring their happiness and health.

On top of the routine veterinary checkups we provide to adult pets, we will give your senior pet special attention. We keep and eye out for age related conditions such as arthritis or loss of vision. Additional laboratory tests will also provide information about your pet's overall health.

Vaccinations & Prevention

During your pet's physical exam, the veterinarian will also check whether they require preventive care, or if they are due for any routine vaccinations.
